In all aspects of our lives balance is key. This includes our exercise routines. Next time you are at the gym, try using the Bosu balance trainer. What?! You don’t know what a balance trainer is? Well, let me explain. It looks like half of a blue exercise ball.

Balance training improves a person’s agility and stability. Many stability exercises will target your abs and other core muscles. You need strong core muscles for good balance. Balance training is good for people of any age and fitness level. Balance training helps with everyday life; whether it’s avoiding falls, stepping over obstacles or shifting direction while you are walking.

Let’s try a few exercises using the Bosu. Start with a basic stance. Place both feet on top of the bosu, you will feel your feet moving and your core contracting until you find your balance. You can even make this move harder by raising your arms over your head.

Lateral walk overs are another good one. Stand next to the Bosu, walk the right foot on top, followed the left, and exit the dome on the other side. If you need to make it a little more difficult add in a hop.

My personal favorite is the V-sit. Sit slightly forward on the dome, place your arms behind you on the floor, this will offer more stability. Lift your legs with your knees bent and balance, keeping your torso straight, and your abs tight. You can make this move more difficult by taking your hands away or straightening your legs.

There are many other exercises that you can do with a balance trainer; push-ups, sit-ups, planks, squats; I could go on and on. If you would like to check out some more exercises visit https://www.verywellfit.com/beginner-bosu-balance-trainer-exercises-123144
