Would you look at that, March is already almost over! That means that April 1st, or April Fools’ Day is right around the corner. Now, I know some of us may be more interested in this day of pranks and tricks than others. Here are a few fun historical facts from the History Channel to get us started.
One speculation for how the holiday got started is when the Gregorian calendar was introduced in France in the mid 1500’s. This led to those who celebrated the new calendar making fun of those who still used the old calendar and celebrated the new year from the last week of March through April 1st. This day might even go back to ancient Roman times with a festival called Hilaria, which was celebrated at the end of March where people dressed up in disguises. Hilaria, that’s hilarious!
Today, we still celebrate April Fools’ Day, but we now save the costumes and disguises for Halloween. Here are 30 pranks that you might want to do this April 1st!
