Last week we introduced you to Dori, our fitness fanatic. We sat down with Dori and asked her a few questions.

How did you get started in the fitness industry?

I began my “fitness journey” with Jane Fonda videos in my living room at the age of 11.  I loved exercise but never enjoyed sports or played on a team.  When I turned 16 and first got my driver’s license, I bought my first gym membership.  I have belonged to a fitness center ever since.  I always loved taking classes and finally got the nerve to become certified about 7 years ago.  My fitness journey has included marathons, half marathons and bikini competitions.

What are you most proud of?

I am most proud of having the confidence to get on stage for my first bikini competition.  I had three children and was over the age of 40, with hard work, motivation and discipline anything is possible.

What has been 1 of the biggest accomplishments of your career?

The biggest accomplishment of my fitness career has been the relationships I have formed in the gym setting.  Keeping others motivated, active and supporting their health journey makes getting up at 4:00 am worth it.

What has been 1 of the biggest challenges you have faced in your career?

The biggest challenge I have faced on my fitness career path was this past year.  Keeping others motivated when we were all stuck at home and coming up with at home workouts was difficult at times.

What is 1 lesson you have learned that other fitness professionals can learn from?

I believe the most important thing I have learned that other fitness professionals can learn from is the need to support your clients/class attendees.  Acknowledging each person in class and recognizing their accomplishments is important.  Creating an environment in class in which no one is intimidated, people are engaged, and newcomers are encouraged to join makes all the difference.

What are your main motivations for teaching/training?

My main motivation for teaching Boot Camp (other than my own health and fitness 😊) is supporting others.  Supporting others in their fitness goals, watching others become stronger and encouraging others is why I love to teach and hope to do it for many years to come!

If you are interested in joining Dori’s Boot Camp, Butts and Guts or Tabata Class at Lionsgate during the month of May, her classes are Monday thru Friday at 5:15am.
