The preacher curl is a multi-functional piece of equipment. Known as an isolation machine, the preacher curl’s main function includes isolating the bicep muscle heads (bi=2). Your triceps should be against the bench pad with your feet planted on the floor. As far as equipment goes, you can utilize the EZ-bar, dumbbells, fixed barbell, and/or resistance bands. Utilizing an EZ-bar opens opportunity to hit the bicep differently (ie. narrow vs wide, pronated vs supinated).

If you’re willing to try something new, try the Zottman Curl. Hold a pair of dumbbells with your palms facing in. Curl the weights up to your shoulders. Pause at the top of the movement and slowly rotate your grip so your palms are facing the floor and lower the weight towards the floor.
